Faction of Fools Theatre Company, Inc. is a not-for-profit theatrical conglomerate founded in March of 2004 with the following threefold mission:
(1) To foster the growth of new playwrights through the development of original works. In reading series, workshops, and fully-staged productions, we connect developing playwrights to young directors, actors, and theatrical artists whose involvement helps to nurture new plays through the creative process.
(2) To provide a forum for physical theatre in New York City and around the world. By publicly producing new works of clowning and Commedia dell' Arte, as well as classic works from these traditions, we promote Fooling to the general public and encourage the collaboration of international artist in the genre of physical comedy--an artform that transcends language and culture.
(3) To further the arts in education. We offer private and group acting classes as well as classes of special interest such as clowning, Shakespeare, and Commedia dell' Arte. We also work as Guest Artists in New York City schools to connect students with professional mentors who can aid in their artistic growth and offer perspectives on a life in the arts. In addition to these theatrically related disciplines, we also work in conjunction with English Literature departments in New York City schools, performing scenes and giving lectures on classic dramatic texts in English classes. This adjunct to traditional classroom techniques allows students to see their assigned reading in live performance rather than simply on the page.
